From Denmark to Hamburg
The Linda McCartney Pro Cycling Team finished the Tour of Denmark today
and now head to Hamburg for the team's first ever World
Cup Race - the HEW Cyclassics, tomorrow.
Pascal Richard, Linda McCartney's Olympic Champion, was 13th overall in
Denmark. It was an excellent ride by the Swiss, who is more reknowned as a
climber than a "rouleur" for flat races like this. The race was won by
Rabobank's Dane Rolf Sorensen. The former Tour de France yellow jersey holder
and World Cup winner has finished second in his home tour know fewer than
five times, so victory was a sweet relief for him.
Matt De Canio, the American now riding with Linda McCartney, finished a fine
11th in the young rider classification, which will have given his manager
Sean Yates much satisfaction.
So now to Hamburg, which promises to be an extremely tough proposition
indeed. A massive target for the Deutsche Telekom team, expect them and the
one-day masters Mapei to dominate - but look out for Linda McCartney riders
keen to take advantage of their rivalry and upset the applecart.
Both Max Sciandri and Pascal Richard have won rounds of the World Cup before,
so Linda McCartney's participation is not only well justified, the squad have
the power to be in there at the death if things go their way.
Eurosport are showing an hour of highlights tomorrow evening, scheduled for 19:30
CET, half past six in the UK.
