Linda McCartney-WCU squad in European action
While the mainstream Linda McCartney Pro Cycling Team get stuck into some
difficult Italian races in oppressive heat, Keith Lambert reports that his
Under-23 boys have been making good inroads on their current Belgian trip,
with Tom Barras taking 10th and Martin Lonie 15th in a big criterium in
Oostende today. Here is his latest news, plus a depressing yet predictable
opening football gambit...
"The usual well coordinated and unified management team of John Deering, Chris
Lillywhite and Keith Lambert was in crisis after Bradford City
crushed their illustrious opponents Chelsea at the Valley of Dreams 2-0. The
vibes could be felt firing over Europe from Haworth to Toulouse to
Scelatori and back again and one could sense that Chris's anger was about to
be unleashed directly into the team meeting in Italy. Just as well Chris was
appointed to Italy instead of being Keith's guest at the Valley and having
to endure the indignity.
Four of the development squad have gone on a 10 day trip to Belgium to
prepare for the final push in the UK in September. The foursome of Tom
Barras, Martin Lonie, Mark Kelly and Stuart MacDonald made an encouraging
start in Roosalare in an Elite
Kermesse by all finishing in the money, Tom being the best in 15th
place.Unfotunately, James Griffiths who has ridden well all year has been
left behind following an alarming slump in form recently. We are fortunate to
be involved with the Welsh Institute of Sport and he is now spending some
time there undergoing tests.Paul Sheppard has also stayed behind having only
returned last week from representing Wales in Guadaloupe. Huw Pritchard is of
course with the big boys in Italy."
Thank you so much Keith, I'm sure our readers enjoy your contributions.
Grrrrr.
