Ciaran digging for victory
Ciaran Power of the Linda McCartney Pro Cycling Team hung on to a place in
the Top 10 of the Sun Tour in Victoria today, as the time triallists took
control of the race.
The 11th stage 25km time trial was always likely to prove difficult for the
Waterford sprinter, and he slipped to 9th in the overall standings. Eric
Wohlberg of Canada and Eugen Wacker of Kazhakstan, the outstanding time
triallists in this race, duly fill the top two slots on the leader board this
afternoon.
Ciaran now has three minutes to recover if he is to catch Wohlberg, but his
impressive Irish team will not go gently into the long winter night. Wohlberg
can expect fireworks right through to Sunday's finale, and Ciaran will be
looking to transform his amazing consistency over the last couple of weeks
into a stage win.
Three minutes is not an impossible target, as the race has featured open
attacking riding since the off, and a break could easily take three minutes.
Ciaran is one of those looking to make it happen.

Power takes second
Linda McCartney Foods Pro Cycling Team’s Ciaran Power took second place in this evening’s criterium stage of the Sun Tour in Victoria Australia.
In front of a huge crowd in Bendigo town centre, situated just over 100km North West of Melbourne, Ciaran was narrowly out sprinted by American Dave McCook, with Britain’s Jeremy Hunt in third.
Ciaran has now racked up an incredible 9 top-ten finishes, which includes 4 trips to the podium, out of the 12 stages of the race so far. With only three stages remaining time is running out for the Irish sprinter, surely this race will rewarded him with a much deserved victory in the coming days?
The race now heads south to the coast before finishing near Melbourne for the final stage on Sunday.
